ABUNDANCE, PEACE, AND FREEDOM

 By, Beth Geer

“Sit quietly and look upon the world you see, and tell yourself: “The real world is not like this. It has no buildings and there are no streets where people walk alone and separate. There are no stores where people buy an endless list of things they do not need. It is not lit with artificial light, and night comes not upon it.”” (A Course In Miracles, Ch13 VII.1:1-4)

The parts of this world we hold onto the tightest (three major categories being: money, relationships, and health) are those very lessons in forgiveness we are going to find ourselves challenged with.

However, all we are being asked, is to not see the loss of money, relationships, and health as hardships, but rather, the release of what was never real to begin with.

In this forgiveness lesson, lies our abundance, peace and freedom.

“The world you see must be denied, for sight of it is costing you a different kind of vision. You cannot see both worlds, for each of them involves a different kind of seeing, and depends on what you cherish.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.2:1-2)

We are not our bodies. Yet, the ego would have us believe that without a certain amount of money we will suffer. And perhaps our body will suffer, but never Who We Are in Truth. The ego would also have us believe that without certain relationships and a certain level of health we will also suffer. But again, yes, all this can happen to the body, and may even be the cause of its death, but Who We Are in Truth exists apart from these experiences.

The lesson is, to see all this “body propaganda” for what it is: an ego tactic to keep us in a perpetual state of fear, lack of trust and anxiety. It is all nothing but a huge distraction from the Truth of Who We Are as One in God and each other.

“You do not really want the world you see, for it has disappointed you since time began.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.3:1)

This is not to say we should take no precautions or prepare for our future. This is also not to say we cannot enjoy the world while we find ourselves a part of it.

Quite the contrary. We should be listening extra close to our heart for direction in what to do next - with each breath we take! Then every experience, every breath, becomes a happy endeavor in existence.

            How do we do this?

We begin with careful consideration of our thoughts, then find the thought that brings us even a small amount of greater joy than the others and follow that.

Start small. Wake each day and be happy with your first conscious breath. Next perhaps decide what you should wear - what brings you even a tiny bit more joy than another item? Wear that.

Then move onto the next thing, and the next. Soon your compass will be totally guided from within by only Love’s direction and you will find your troubles falling away.

And do not fear what falls away!

Your money may become even more scarce, your relationships may fall apart, and your health may appear to worsen.

These “forgiveness lessons” need not be painful. When such lessons are seen as the great release that they truly are, they simply fall away. The tighter we fight against the idea of losing what we hold dear in this world, the more painful the lessons become. Yet we are unaware we are the ones holding the noose, tightening it against our own neck.

So let all these bodily concerns go and simply keep making one simple choice for Love one after another, all day long, every single day, instant by holy instant.

Trust this process. It is the process of letting go of what no longer serves you, teaching you what you do, and do not need.

This is the process of learning what true forgiveness is. To forgive is to overlook all worldly, bodily needs and concerns, knowing it is not Who You Are.

“Yet the real world has the power to touch you even here, because you love it. And what you call with love will come to you.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.4:1)

It is good to take care of what is in your care at the moment: your body, your “outer life.” You must do this while you are here. But in order to do so, you must first take care not to attach emotions to any expected outcome to those “outer life circumstances.” By this I mean that if something does not fall the way you want, you do not feel suffering over it. You move forward, finding peace in forgiveness; the knowing it is all part of the process of letting go of what no longer serves you.

            Again, trust this process!

“To give this sad world over and exchange your errors for the peace of God is but your will. And Christ will always offer you the Will of God, in recognition that you share it with Him.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.6:6-7)

This process of “giving this sad world over in exchange for the peace of God” is a simple matter of changing our perception from one of separation, to one of Unity.

“He must deny the world of pain the instant he perceives the arms of love around him. And from this point of safety he looks quietly about him and recognizes that the world is one with him.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.7:6-7)

And in this new perception of Oneness, we are born again into a new world. A world of abundance, peace, and freedom. This transition need not take a long time. We can shift in the moment of a single decision. We make a shift with each moment we are presented with an emotional challenge. We shift each instant we choose again – to be certain of what we truly want. We must remember to ask ourselves, “Is this feeling what I really want?”

Do you want this world of suffering or to see a world of peace?

To choose, we must first feel then be that which we desire, and then see this sameness of Love’s Unity in all else around us.

“Love waits on welcome, not on time, and the real world is but your welcome of what always was.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.5:7)

Let us then, leave the perception of our needs to One Who Knows.

“Only the Holy Spirit knows what you need. For He will give you all things that do not block the way to light.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.12.1)

“In time, He gives you all the things that you need have and will renew them as long as you have need of them.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.12:4)

“Therefore He has no investment in the things that He supplies, except to make certain that you will not use them on behalf of lingering in time.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.12:7)

“Leave, then, your needs to Him.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.13:1)

“Under His guidance you will travel light and journey lightly, for His sight is ever on the journey’s end, which is His goal.” (ACIM Ch13 VII.13:4)

And so it is, we let everything within this world go in peace. We release our emotional attachment to the “things” of this world. Our bodies may still have certain needs, but we need not covet them with our heart.

This is all that is being asked of us; to accept the rise and fall of what comes with dignity and grace, resisting the temptation to wish anything were different. In this way we make our great advance, our escape from the cycle of birth and death, that we may never be tempted to return again for yet another senseless journey.

True abundance, peace and freedom then are ours.
