Quantum Physics Explains Ego Versus Christ Vision
One day, I was contemplating A Course In Miracles Workbook Lesson 18: “I Am Not Alone In Experiencing The Effects Of My Seeing.”
After many years of studying the Course, I understood that I am always looking at the world either through the eyes of the ego or the Holy Spirit. In that, I knew I was never alone in my “seeing.” I was choosing either a false guide (the ego) or a real one (the Holy Spirit) as the lens through which I looked upon the world.
The part of this lesson I was having difficulty digesting, was that I was not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing.
Who else was experiencing the effects of my seeing? I knew it had to do with our interconnectedness through Spirit, but how did it work?
It was with this question that the Holy Spirit interceded within my mind, giving me the answer.
He stated, “Do not forget an important principle of the law of cause and effect. A principle even your most intelligent scientists have discovered is true: Quantum physics tells you that nothing that is observed is unaffected by the observer.”
Another related thought quickly followed, “What you do to another, you do to yourself.”
My mind then instantly remembered the experiment that triggered this great discovery in quantum physics. Electrons were sent through an opening in a barrier. When not being “observed” by anyone, these electrons behaved like waves – or light. But when observed by someone, these very same electrons behaved like particles – or physical matter. In other words, when under observation, electrons were literally transformed from waves of energy into physical particles. Thus, the mere act of observation affected our experience of these electrons as either physical particles or waves of light.
The very fabric of their existence could be experienced by us in two completely different ways, depending on whether or not they were being “observed!”
What did this mean?
The Holy Spirit answered my thoughts again saying, “This means that when you look through the eyes of your body, you are using the ego and you will see a world of form and solid matter. Everything will be made of solid “particles” in some form. Thus, all waves of light surrounding you become solid in your experience, and you see separate forms and objects. But, if you could manage to take your ego out of the equation, and see the world through your Inner Eyes, using your Christ Vision, everything would be transformed back into waves, and My Energy would become visible to you. And you would see a different world indeed. You would see Oneness instead of separate forms. The Reality of Heaven, as God created it in truth exists all around you, making up the very fabric of the physical reality you see now. You are simply using the incorrect eyes to see it.”
Thinking about our reality from this new angle utterly blew my mind away. I always understood that a reality of light and love surrounded us – Heaven – but it was never so clear how it was a mere shift away! This meant we had the power to decide whether we saw particles or waves – physical reality or a new, inconceivable non-physical one; Reality as God created it, not as our ego is forcing it to be now.
So, if we look through the eyes of the ego, we see particles. And if we can learn to look out through our Inner Eyes, the eyes of the Holy Spirit, we would see… waves. And what are these waves? They are Love. For love is a form of energy like a wave or frequency. God’s Love is That Which holds all form, in formation. It is the Unity of All Creation.
And this is why our thoughts are never neutral or unimportant. We are either strengthening the separation through seeing “particles,” or separate bodies, or strengthening our Union through seeing “waves,” or Love’s Unified Presence.
And here it was being revealed to me, that these particles surrounding us can be seen in such a way that it literally transforms the very fabric of reality.
And not just my reality, but everyone’s.
For A Course In Miracles makes it very clear that minds are joined. And when I change my mind, I change how I see the world and this affects the world because, nothing that is observed is unaffected by the observer.
Therefore, when I am healed, I am not healed alone, and so “I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing.”
If I look at you, using my “inner eyes” and see you as part of my One Self, recognizing our Oneness I am asking for you to be a “wave” of Love, interconnected with me, as part of my Self. I am seeing you differently than the “particle” or physical body the ego shows me through my “particle-based” physical eyes.
We must not forget that love is an emotion – a frequency or wavelength. Love is a “wave” and not a physical “particle.” So, just as you cannot “see” love, neither can you “see” our Oneness without belief. This is because you have to truly believe in such thoughts, without seeing, before you can feel them. Thought begets belief, which produces feeling. This is the order creation.
In other words, all beliefs begin with our thoughts, which feed our feelings, which project onto the world what we want to see. So, it is important to watch our thoughts, paying careful attention to the tenor and feel of everything we think. Thinking is the cause, and if we believe our thoughts, feeling is the effect. And feelings are what manifest our reality – they are the medium of prayers, the voice of our soul. Feelings are what we use to speak to God and subsequently ask for “the experience of.”
“Thinking and its results are really simultaneous, for cause and effect are never separate.” (ACIM W. Lesson 19 1:4)
If we want to transform this world from ego-particles into Love-waves, we have to redirect our thoughts back to love, time and again. We must pay attention to which voice we are listening to, then act to consciously correct our thoughts the instant we detect the ego’s interference; and we will know the ego’s presence by how we feel. Even the slightest irritation is a sure sign you are not aligned with Love.
Therefore, do not hold anyone hostage to their “particle-based” body. See them through your heart – as a wave of Love, connected to your One Self. And love them as such.
If you find someone difficult to love, then you must catch these “feelings” then see beyond the person’s words and actions for a moment, knowing they mistake their body as their identity. They are confused and think they are a particle, and do not know they are a Wave of Love.
But you can be their light.
You can choose to see them correctly, and by your “seeing” them as they are in Truth, you affect them.
Keep in mind, you do not have to agree with anything they say or do, but merely allow your thoughts about them to be still. Then, through your cleared mind, your healed perception will cause a shift in this world. A shift will take place from seeing them as a particle separate from yourself to a wave at One with you in God’s Love.
Keep in mind, this is a shift in feeling, and feeling is what shifts how you see reality.
“You can see them differently, and you will. What you desire you will see. Such is the real law of cause and effect as it operates in the world.” (ACIM W. Lesson 20 5:4-6)
Know that you are seeing incorrectly every time you see bodies made of particles instead of feeling Waves of Love.
When you still your thoughts about the world and the bodies it contains, your inner eyes, the eyes of Christ will open, transforming the world of physical particles into waves of eternal Light and Love.
You truly have this formidable power of love. Be determined to see our Unity in God’s Field of Love in all things, and wield it well, for in this, you hold the power of All Creation.
Yet, such a dramatic transformation in thought takes a miracle.
“There are no idle thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.9:13-14)
“It is much more helpful to remind you that you do not guard your thoughts carefully enough. You may feel that at this point it would take a miracle to enable you to do this, which is perfectly true. You are not used to miracle-minded thinking, but you can be trained to think that way. All miracle workers need that kind of training.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.1:7-10)
Indeed, the very definition of the word “miracle” which requires such mind-training is explained in A Course In Miracles:
“Miracles rearrange perception and place all levels in true perspective.” (ACIM T. CH1 I.23:1)
“By recognizing spirit, miracles adjust the levels of perception and show them in proper alignment. This places spirit at the center, where it can communicate directly.” (ACIM T. CH1 I.30:1)
“A miracle is a correction introduced into false thinking by me. It acts as a catalyst, breaking up erroneous perception and reorganizing it properly. This places you under the Atonement principle, where perception is healed.” (ACIM T. CH1 I.37:1-3)
So exactly how do we heal our perception which causes us to see Waves of Unified Love (the Atonement principle) instead of separate particles (bodies)?
It is a simple two-step process:
STEP ONE: Recognize when you are having “fear-thoughts.” You can recognize these thoughts by how you feel. If you are not at peace, you are choosing to see wrongly.
“The presence of fear shows that you have raised body thoughts to the level of the mind. This removes them from my control, and makes you feel personally responsible for them. This is an obvious confusion of levels.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.1:6-8)
“When you are fearful, you have chosen wrongly.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.3:2)
STEP TWO: Let go of your fear-thoughts. You do this by being determined to change your mind about what you are seeing. You can change your mind by recognizing that you do not know what anything is, based on the fact you are seeing a world of particles instead of Reality as God created as Waves of His Love.
“The correction of fear is your responsibility.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.4:1)
“Whenever there is fear, it is because you have not made up your mind. Your mind is therefore split, and your behavior inevitably becomes erratic.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.5:8-9)
“These conditions always entail a willingness to be separate.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.4:4)
When you have “let go” of your desire to see yourself separate, you will then feel an inner “release” of some kind. This is done through releasing your judgment, insistence, and resistance to specific outcomes, which produces peace. It is the feeling you get when you shift from your “outer-eyes” to your “Inner Vision.”
The final step is then taken by God, and this brings the healing miracle. Once you welcome all outcomes with total faith and trust in what is the best for all, you will be guided in what must be done next; ifthere is anything you must say or do. Often, we are merely asked to be still.
This change or correction in the way we think takes practice or “purification of our thoughts.”
“Miracles are everyone’s right, but purification is necessary first.” (ACIM T. CH1 I.7:1)
“Few appreciate the real power of the mind, and no one remains fully aware of it all the time. However, if you hope to spare yourself from fear there are some things you must realize, and realize fully. The mind is very powerful, and never loses its creative force. It never sleeps. Every instant it is creating. It is hard to recognize that thought and belief combine into a power surge that can literally move mountains.” (ACIM T. CH2 VI.9:3-8)
We are told we can move mountains because in truth, they exist as waves of energy, not particles of solid matter! “Moving matter,” is merely a matter of “moving our thoughts.”
“Miracle working entails a full realization of the power of thought in order to avoid miscreation.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.2:2)
“The miracle worker must have genuine respect for true cause and effect as a necessary condition for the miracle to occur.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.4:4)
“Both miracles and fear come from thoughts.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.3:1)
“The fearful must miscreate, because they misperceive creation.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.3:8)
If we want to avoid “miscreation,” we must avoid “fear thoughts” or ego-thoughts that cause any type of negative emotion or overt attachment to anything and any outcome in the world of particles we see. This is because the “particle version” of reality is not real, and the tighter we hold onto seeing it, the longer it will remain in front of our eyes. This need not become a lot of work. We are simply asked to recognize when we are not at peace or becoming obsessive about a particular outcome to a situation. Then consciously choose to relinquish such thoughts. God will do the rest.
“The initial corrective procedure is to recognize temporarily that there is a problem, but only as an indication that immediate correction is needed. This establishes a state of mind in which the Atonement can be accepted without delay.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.5:8-9)
And what again exactly is “the Atonement?” Merely the inner recognition of our Oneness.
“It should be noted that God has only one Son. If all His creations are His Sons, every one must be an integral part of the whole Sonship.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.6:1-2)
“Any part of the Sonship can believe in error or incompleteness if he so chooses. However, if he does so, he is believing in the existence of nothingness. The correction of this error is the Atonement.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.6:7-9)
Therefore, we are free to believe whatever we want, but in the end the only thing we really want is to be healed of our existence as separate “particles.” Once this, the Atonement, becomes our only goal here, we have stepped onto the path of mastery of True Vision.
“Confidence cannot develop fully until mastery has been accomplished. We have already attempted to correct the fundamental error that fear can be mastered, and have emphasized that the only real mastery is through love.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.7:6-7)
“You may think this implies that an enormous amount of time is necessary between readiness and mastery, but let me remind you that time and space are under my control.” (ACIM T. CH2 VII.8:9)
“The sole responsibility of the miracle worker is to accept the Atonement for himself.” (ACIM T. CH2 V.5:1)
“The body is, however, easily brought into alignment with a mind that has learned to look beyond it toward the light.” (ACIM T. CH2 V.6:6)
“Corrective learning always begins with the awakening of spirit, and the turning away from the belief in physical sight.” (ACIM T. CH2 V.7:1)
“I said before that the Holy Spirit cannot see error, and is capable only of looking beyond it to the defense of Atonement.” (ACIM T. CH2 V.7:3)
“Spiritual vision literally cannot see error, and merely looks for Atonement.” (ACIM T. CH2 III.4:1)
“The way to correct distortions is to withdraw your faith in them and invest it only in what is true.” (ACIM T. CH3 II.6:1)
“It is possible to look on reality without judgement and merely know that it is there.” (ACIM T. CH3 VI.9:6)
“If you perceive truly you are cancelling out misperceptions in yourself and in others simultaneously. Because you see them as they are, you offer them your acceptance of their truth so they can accept it for themselves. This is the healing that the miracle induces.” (ACIM T. CH3 II.6:5-7)
And with that being said, what should we be thinking of instead of our “fear-thoughts” based on “particles?” What can we replace our ego-thoughts with?
We need not replace such thoughts with anything at all. We need merely understand that we do not know what we are looking at, and God will do the rest.
“There is no statement that the world is more afraid to hear than this:
I do not know the thing I am, and therefore do not know what I am doing, where I am, or how to look upon the world or on myself.
Yet in this learning is salvation born. And What you are will tell you of Itself.” (ACI T. CH31 V.17:6-9)
The world literally quakes at this statement because the ego knows it will be transformed from particles of matter into Waves of Love and Light, whence we let go of our judgment of everything we see.
In conclusion of these revelations that came to me over a short span of time, the Holy Spirit said to me:
“A true master is not the one who walks the world without fear. They are the one who can instantly recognize fear and then consciously choose to move out of it through the recognition of their safety as part of One Love - the Atonement. This abates their fear, for what is One cannot be in danger from Itself. This is to recognize their One Self: in everything, everyone, everywhere. This is Self-mastery. This is true power. This is what it means to be a miracle worker.”
