Workshop 8: Healing and the Second Coming Through A Course in Miracles
This workshop includes a concise teaching followed by a guided meditation to support lived practice through A Course in Miracles.
Overview
In this eighth workshop of a twelve-part A Course in Miracles series, we explore the fear many people feel around the word “God,” and how guilt and special relationships can block our memory of His Love. We also reframe the Second Coming not as an external event, but as an inner transformation born through forgiveness, healed relationships, and restored peace.

Part 1 - The Teaching: Healing the Fear of God and the Meaning of the Second Coming
I’m going to write a word now, and I want you to notice what you feel inside when you read it.
GOD.
For most people, the very word elicits discomfort on some level.
Personally, what I have found through my years of teaching the lessons from A Course In Miracles, is that many people do not like it when I use the word "God" and have asked if I could use a different word instead.
This request has come up often enough, that I feel deeply inspired to address it, as it is the undoing of this very fear and discomfort that the Second Coming hinges on.
A Course in Miracles teaches that this discomfort is not random. It is a symptom of an inner barrier: the guilt we believe is justified, and the fear that a loving Creator might punish us for it.
Why the Word Can Feel Charged
Most of us hold, consciously or unconsciously, some version of these thoughts:
God is disappointed in me.
I’ve done something wrong.
I’m not living the way I should.
If God is real, I might be judged as “bad” or “unworthy” and punished.
So, we protect ourselves by distancing. We avoid the word, replace it, or keep “God” at arm’s length in our mind and in our heart.
But the Course invites a different step when the word “God” triggers our fear:
Forgive the fear.
Not by forcing belief—just by becoming willing to see that fear is not the truth of God or of you. Forgive the ego’s voice within you, speaking the fear.
The Ego’s Voice vs. God’s Voice
The Course teaches that the ego is born from the belief in separation. And the ego speaks first and loudest—because guilt wants a screen, and fear wants a story.
You can tell the difference between the ego’s voice and God’s Voice by how you feel:
The ego produces anxiety, depression, attack, comparison, scarcity, and strain.
God’s guidance produces quiet, steadiness, kindness, clarity, and peace.
The ego promises happiness with conditions—something you get, achieve, win, prove, or protect. But it cannot ever offer anything that lasts.
God’s Love is not conditional. It is not earned. It is not lost. And the Course teaches that your natural state is peace and God’s Answer to our fears is always some form of peace.
The Second Coming: An Inner Event
So, what does all this have to do with the Second Coming?
Everything.
Because once our barriers to our memory of God’s Love have come down, He is free to walk upon the earth. Yes, He will come through us. We are literally the doorway through which miracles walk and all our tears will be wiped away by God Himself. And a new world will be revealed to us because we ceased to judge the old one.
As stated in A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 301:
“And God Himself shall wipe away all tears.” (ACIM, W-301)
“Let me see Your world instead of mine. And all the tears I shed will be forgotten, for their source is gone. Father, I will not judge Your world today.” (ACIM, W-301.1:5-7)
The Second Coming is not a dramatic external event. It is a gentle inner return—the moment the mind remembers God’s Love and releases the fear that hid it.
As forgiveness removes guilt, a new perception is born. And what begins as an inner shift expresses outwardly:
relationships soften and heal.
conflict loses its grip as you lose interest in conflict.
peace becomes more natural because it becomes your constant choice.
the world reflects a healed mind you begin to see how everything rests in peace and union, not conflict and differences.
This is why the Course places forgiveness at the center of salvation. It does not ask us to fix the world. It asks us to heal the mind that is seeing it.
Five Steps That Hasten the Shift
There are five simple steps to quickening the arrival of the Second Coming:
You need do nothing.
You are already perfect, complete, healed and whole as God Created you and you need do nothing beyond accepting this as the truth about you.
Forgive what contradicts the truth.
You are not a body living in separation from All Creation. Release every thought rooted in fear, unworthiness, or separation related to bodies.Extend the truth to everyone.
What is true for you is true for all because we are all equally beloved of God, as part of His One Son. Because He loves us all, we must conciously extend this Love to all as well.Trust you cannot fail.
It is God’s Will that you return to peace. You are not doing this alone. You can and will see past all bodily forms and know only the Love we are. It is God’s Will we learn to do this, and no one can fail to do what God Wills.Return to quiet - resume “doing nothing.”
Never has so little been asked of us, to gain everything and yet we act as if we are being asked to sacrifice all we hold dear. All we are being asked to do, is believe the truth about our unity as One Self and doing nothing else to interfere with this truth. We are only asked to give up fear and let the Holy Spirit Love others through us, whom we do not want to love by ourselves.
The Final Barrier: Special Relationships
The Course teaches that one of the last strongholds of fear is the special relationship—the relationship used by the ego to get something: approval, security, identity, comfort, control.
A special relationship often contains hidden bargains:
You must meet my needs.
You must never leave me.
Love me in the way I demand.
But love does not bargain. Love does not demand. Love does not control - anything.
A holy relationship is a special relationship given to the Holy Spirit to be healed. It becomes a place where guilt is not placed, attack is not justified, and peace becomes the shared goal.
Freedom is the holy relationship’s clarion call.
The Course says the function of relationships is “to make happy” and this happens when we release the ego’s demands. Then the relationship becomes the classroom where union is remembered.
In Closing: What Is the Second Coming?
The Second Coming is the time when fear and guilt are undone in the mind and is replaced with light - the light of understanding the Truth of Who We Are to each other and God.
It is the moment the Christ is born in us through our forgiveness of all our ego sees and thinks.
It is when we no longer allow the world of bodies, conflict, and appearances to obscure the peace within.
And as we choose peace—again and again—Heaven is brought gently into awareness. A quiet inner shift, subtly shifting our outer world alongside it.
The outside world conforms to our inner condition.
Do you enjoy the condition you are in?
A Course in Miracles tells us:
“Reason will tell you that the only way to escape from misery is to recognize it and go the other way.” (ACIM, T-22.II.4:1)
Part 2 - Guided Meditation: Field of Flowers
This meditation was adapted from A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 47: God is the Strength in which I trust.
Settle and Breathe
Okay, let’s begin.
You may close your eyes if you wish or watch this meditation (click here or the link below - link will be active mid-September, 2026.) It is comprised of peaceful nature scenes from my farm and other quiet moments during my travels. These recordings are intentionally simple and grounding, created to support stillness, inner listening, and a gentle return to presence as the meditation is received.
Now, bring your attention to your breathing.
Notice the quiet rise and fall of your chest.
Take a deep breath in… hold it… and slowly let it out.
Again… deeply in… hold… and let it out.
One more time… in… hold… and release.
Very good.
Now notice a sense of privacy and comfort as you follow the sound of my voice.
With each word, your body grows more peaceful.
Your mind becomes more clear, calm, and quiet.
The Meadow
Imagine you are lying in the sunshine on a soft blanket in thick grass.
You are on a mountain hillside, surrounded by wildflowers in every color.
A warm breeze touches your face.
The air smells sweet.
Birdsong is heard softly singing nearby.
Butterflies drift through the field.
There is nothing here that can disturb your peace.
Let the warmth of the sun soften your forehead… your eyes… your cheeks… your jaw.
Feel your shoulders release.
Your arms relax.
Your chest softens.
Your stomach relaxes.
Your hips… your legs… and relaxation spreads all the way down to your feet and toes.
You are warm, comfortable, and safe.
The Path and the River
Now you notice a narrow path through the flowers, leading along the hillside.
You quietly stand and begin walking.
The grass is soft beneath your feet.
With each step, you feel lighter.
The path curves down to a small river.
The water is clear and calm.
You can see stones at the bottom in soft colors and rounded shapes.
This river feels like a guardian of your inner world.
You recognize it.
It is the guardian of your inner home.
Step into the water now.
It is the perfect temperature. The stones feel cool and smooth on your feet. The current is gentle and calming.
As you walk across, your whole body feels cleansed and peaceful.
Rising Above the Mist
On the far side, a gentle mist gathers around you.
Do not be afraid.
This mist represents the ego’s defenses—the thoughts that block awareness of Love’s Presence.
Ahead, on the other side of the stream, you see a staircase of light rising above the mist.
There are seven steps.
We will move upward on them now, gently and lovingly. We know we are going somewhere very good, happy and peaceful.
Seven Steps of Light
One… step into the first light. Feel steadiness and safety.
You are held.
Two… step into the second light. Feel ease and openness.
You are guided.
Three… step into the third light. Feel quiet strength awaken in you.
You are supported.
Four… step into the fourth light. Feel love expand in your chest.
You are not alone.
Five… step into the fifth light. Feel your mind grow calmer and clearer.
Peace is natural.
Six… step into the sixth light. Feel doubt loosen and fall away.
You remain as God created you.
Seven… step into the seventh light. Rest in spacious stillness.
You are connected to the Source of Love.
Now pause here.
You have just made an important transition from the world of the physical, to the world of the Divine. And you have used the strength of God to do it. Was this not an easy, gentle, peaceful process? Did it take you very much effort? All things done through the strength of God are effortless, because His strength is unlimited and infinite.
You have risen above the mist.
You have not fought it.
You have simply remembered what is true.
The Lesson
Now I would like you to look out around you…
You see a brilliant light here, high above the clouds of your ego weaknesses. You have risen above all the problems that assail your physical life.
You have entered the non-physical realm. Here there are no problems, because we are not bodies.
Here we are all shine equally in light and love. Here is a world where we see only our connectedness to All That Is and our Oneness with each other, and we desire no harm towards what is part of us.
You can live here while going about your daily physical life as well. You can come here any time you like and have all your worldly problems disappear.
You have only to do one thing: never forget that God is the strength in which you live and trust. Of your own self, you have no power. All that gives you life, comes from God.
You cannot see this power, but you can feel it. Just like air. You feel it as your true Essence. Trust the strength of God Who gives you life.
In this quiet, repeat gently within:
God is the strength in which I trust.
God is the strength in which I trust.
God is the strength in which I trust.
Let those words sink beneath all trivial surface thoughts.
Let them become a feeling of safety - you are creating a space you can return to, again and again.
Now say again:
God is the strength in which I trust.
Now, we will rest here for a few reflective moments.
Return
And now, without losing any of the peace and happiness you are feeling right now, we will begin the reawakening process. You will clearly and vividly remember everything you experienced, heard or felt during your journey within.
You will awaken as I count up to five. When I reach the number five, you will become fully alert and wide-awake.
One… You are beginning to feel more awake. You feel the weight of your body, your feet, your legs, your arms, your torso and your head.
Two… Now you are becoming more aware of your surroundings… Feeling satisfied, safe and comfortable.
Three… You’re looking forward to the profound positive results from this deeply healing meditation.
Four… Feeling absolutely happy and wonderful and more and more awake
Five… Now you are wide-awake and fully alert. Open your eyes and be present.
Welcome back. You did beautifully. Thank yourself for this time spent with God, His Peace and His Light. It is a gift to your highest Self that knows no limits in Healing and Love.
