Meditation With God: Leaving the Body Behind — A Guided Meditation Inspired by A Course in Miracles

Meditation Overview

In this guided meditation inspired by A Course in Miracles, you are invited to gently release identification with the body and enter a direct experience of yourself as mind, awareness, and light within God. Through forgiveness, stillness, and the recognition that the body is not your true identity, this meditation supports remembrance of Atonement — At-One-Ment with God and all Creation.

By setting aside bodily concerns, desires, and self-concepts, the meditation leads the mind into a quiet inner center where peace rests unchanged. From this holy place, separation dissolves, healing naturally occurs, and the truth of unity is quietly remembered — not through effort, but through willingness to let truth be itself.

MEDITATION WITH GOD: Leaving the Body Behind

Sit in a quiet, comfortable upright position.
Resist the temptation to lie down, as this may cause you to fall asleep. Meditation is an active, aware joining of your mind with God’s.

Take several slow, gentle breaths.
Notice how your chest softens, your jaw relaxes, and your shoulders release with each breath.
Gently scan your body and allow any remaining tension to loosen.

Tension is simply a sign that the mind has been holding onto thoughts that do not serve peace.
We set those thoughts aside now — not by force, but by willingness — as we open to a different experience.

This is a quiet and holy meditation.
We are not rejecting the body, but gently loosening our identification with it so we may remember the deeper truth of what we are.

We are allowing ourselves to experience Atonement — At-One-Ment — the remembrance of our unity with God.

Continue breathing softly and evenly as we follow this gentle inward path.

Noticing the Body Without Judgment

Bring your attention to your body.

Simply notice your thoughts about it.
Do not judge them. Just observe.

Do you wish it were different?
Do you fear its limitations?
Do you admire certain traits?

For most of your life, the body has been at the center of your awareness.
Even when you were not consciously thinking about it, it has shaped how you believed you moved through the world.

Today, we practice something new.

We allow the possibility that the body is not the source of our identity, our worth, or our peace.

There is no guilt in having sought happiness through the body.
You have simply been trying to feel whole.

Now, we open to the idea that true peace may be found in a place the body cannot go — within the mind that rests in God.

Loosening Identification

The body has been used as a means to find joy, safety, love, and meaning.
But the happiness it offers is always uncertain, because it is tied to change.

For just a moment, let yourself consider that your deepest joy does not depend on the body at all.

This is not loss.
This is release.

Atonement is the remembrance of your Oneness — and this remembrance takes place in the mind.

The body cannot follow you into the still center of your being.
Only awareness can go there.

Each instant your mind rests in God, a quiet healing occurs.
When you return to daily life, you may still see the body — but you will see it more gently, more lightly.

The body’s hold on you is largely imagined.
It exists in memory and anticipation, but not in the stillness of this present moment.

Right now, you do not need to figure anything out about the body.
You simply allow your attention to move inward.

Letting Go of the Story

Gently release thoughts of the past and the future.
They are only ideas the mind has been holding.

Freedom is available the moment you no longer wish to carry them.

Many have sought this quiet center through long effort.
But peace is not earned through struggle.
It is remembered through willingness.

Recognize now that the body is neutral.
It is not your enemy, and it is not your salvation.

It is simply not who you are.

This recognition is simple, and it is enough.

You are ready to remember your unity with God and all creation.

Doing Nothing

There is nothing you must do to achieve this remembrance.

Let this truth be true for you.

Allow yourself to believe, even for one gentle instant, that you are not the body, and that you are not guilty of anything you have associated with it.

Offer yourself forgiveness.

Let your needs, your regrets, your ambitions, and your fears about the body drift away like mist dissolving in sunlight.

Now extend this same forgiveness to everyone else.

Forgive them their bodily identities.
Forgive what you thought they did.
Forgive what you thought you needed from them.

Let all of that soften and fade.

You need do nothing but allow the truth of what you are to replace the story of what you thought you were.

Seeing Without Bodies

Who are you without the idea of a body?

Who is anyone else?

Even one instant of seeing someone beyond the body restores peace to both of you.

Let all people in your mind now be seen as light, presence, and love — not form.

Let the image of bodies gently dissolve, like shapes made of fog disappearing in morning light.

Notice the relief this brings.

Your relationships become simple.
Where there is only light, there is no conflict.

This is not escape.
This is clarity.

You are remembering what has always been true.

The Quiet Center

Now allow your mind to rest in a quiet inner place.

Here, you do nothing.
You expect nothing.
You are simply aware.

Let thoughts of the body, its past, its future, its successes and failures grow still.

In this quiet, God’s Presence is recognized.

This holy place within you has always been here.
It is untouched by anything that happens in the world.

This is the center the body cannot enter.

From here, guidance comes naturally and gently for how to live, speak, and move while still appearing in the world.

Here, the mind rests in God.

Here, Atonement is remembered.

Resting in Truth

This is a moment of healing.

This is a moment in which the belief in separation softens.

You are not a body.
You are free.
You remain as God created you.

Rest now in this quiet awareness.

Let the memory of what you truly are arise naturally.

You are Love.
You are Light.

You need do nothing but allow this truth to be true.

And in this gentle remembering, the burden of identification with the body falls away.

Amen
